Let's Build A Theater.

In September of 2006 a group of us started to ponder the possibilities of furthering the theater arts program at the Edgartown School. This led to a plan to expand the school's stage, located in the gymnasium.

After much thought and brainstorming it became clear that the idea of improving a situation in a gymnasium had it's shortcomings and we started to discuss the possibilities of using the space next door - the old school - which has stood vacant for the last five years.

Such a plan would offer opportunities to the entire community as a small black box theater. It could be used for not only school theater projects, but to other theater, dance and musical applications to the benefit of all in the community.

In August of 2007 we presented this concept to Ms Patricia Neal, truly an icon in American Theater and Film, and asked if we might honor her, a longtime resident of Edgartown, by naming such a theater in her honor. She graciously accepted and thus was born the....

PATRICIA NEAL THEATER PROJECT!

It is our hope that once completed, this theater will be a fully equipped state of the art theater to benefit the community at large, both young and old alike.
